Lion Lynda Davidson
Cabinet Secretary 2009 - 2010
I was born in Vancouver BC, lived there for 12 years, spent 8 in Burnaby and have been a Surrey resident ever since. I graduatedfrom St Ann’s Academy in New Westminster. I have a daughter Beverly, a Chilliwack resident and a son Brian who lives in Abbotsford. The family has grown to include 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandson.
When I went back to work after the kids were born I started to work for Lenkurt Electric which manufactured telecommunication equipment. Over the years the company changed names a few times but continued to manufacture the same type of equipment. My bet is every telephone system in North America from the sixties and seventies had equipment that was built in that factory. My first job was on an assembly line making transformers. The company encouraged me to take courses, especially ones related to leadership and management. Eventually, after many years of supervising and testing equipment I went back to night school to further my education. I achieved a Certificate of Operations Management from BCIT and completed my Purchasing Degree from Simon Fraser University. When the company closed 38 years later, I retired as the Manager of the
Purchasing Department. I was part of an active social committee, chaired the United Way Campaign for a number of years and my proudest achievement was mentoring women who wanted to advance in the company and the electronic industry.
It was my involvement with the United Way that made me understand the needs of our communities and the difference, service clubs can make. So after looking at various options I chose Lions, joining in 1998 where I was very active in all projects. I transferred into the Fort Langley Lions in 2001. Since that time I have chaired numerous projects, was a secretary for a 2 years and a membership chair for 3. I have received 100% Awards for both positions. I have continued my education by graduating from the LEAD program and The Pacific Northwest Regional Lions Leadership Institute. In 2006 I became a member of the District H Cabinet and have been every since in different chairs. I have received many Awards over the years but nothing can compare to the personal feeling of accomplishment I get when others have been helped.
I spend my winters curling and my summers gardening, golfing and something new this year, lawn bowling. My husband, Don McLean and I enjoy traveling the roads of BC and Washington State, walking on beaches and spending time with family and friends.
I am looking forward to the coming year as Cabinet Secretary to DG Virginia Edgelow.
