Lion Rollie LaGrandeur
Zone Chair H6 2009 - 2010
Rolande Louise Dubois was born in St Boniface, Manitoba in October 1940. Their family lived in the small village of St. Labre, south of Winnipeg. They moved to St Boniface in 1949, now part of Winnipeg, two and half years later they moved to Nanaimo BC.
There she attended school at St Anne’s Convent. Met her first husband in Nanaimo where she married and after their first child was born in 1962, they came to new Westminster, They had 3 children and now have 4 grandchildren, Rolande was a hockey mom and spent many cold hours in arenas, she was also deeply involved with the with the Girl Guides movement.
For six years in the 1970s she worked as a driver for the New Westminster Seniors Service Bureau. When her husband passed away in Jan.1977 she returned to Winnipeg to join her parents, sister and brother she dearly missed, who had returned in 1960. Getting her class two and air brakes she drove School Bus for St. Boniface School Division for the next 12 years and raised her three teenagers.
Her children now grown and on their own Rolande was blessed by meeting a fabulous man. Graham LaGrandeur a Winnipeg police detective and were married in 1988. Regretfully their marriage was cut short as Graham passed away in 1996.
Her children had returned to BC, so in 1998, she followed & settled down in Chilliwack. Now lives closer to her children and her four grandchildren who live in the Langley area. In Dec.1999 was inducted as a member of the Chilliwack Stellers Jay Lions. Over the past 10 years, she has served on the Board of Directors as membership chairwoman, two years as 100% Secretary, and serving as 2nd & 1st Vice Presidents to President of her club.
Her other interests are quilting, crocheting, bowling, reading, love hockey and Blue Jays baseball.
Rolande is truly looking forward to the challenge of being Zone Chairperson for the next Lionistic year 2009-2010 and meeting and working with all the clubs in her zone and District H.
